4003s Question

I know of a 1992 4003s (MG/black hardware) for sale. What Neck width/depth can be expected?

Look at the "Measure your Girth Again" thread below(far below). My own 1992 4003SFL has a neck that is substantially smaller than my 1994 4003S. Its a very small sample size, but my two are all original examples. I've noticed that sometime between 92 and 94 RIC changed how they do their nuts(make jokes, please!) The nut on my '92 is varnished in and the slots appear to be cut with a triangular file; the nut on my '94 is not varnished in, the slots appear to be pre-cut and filed with a nut slot file, and the nut itself is more squarish(blocky!) All of the nuts on my 94 and later Ricks are unvarnished, all of the earlier ones are varnished. I don't know how related all of these things are, but I think the 92's neck will be smaller than a 94 and later. Unless the change was made in '92 and you get one made after the change!

I will leave RIC to do their own nuts however pleases them the most. They better not touch my nuts, though!

Thanks for your answer Jeff. I was hoping you'd say the most terrible neck in history could be expected as I dont need another bass at the moment.

I'm still thinking about this bass. Just for the set of BT it would allready be nice. And I do like the S shape. But I have a 4003 BBR on order and just dont need it. So far all my basses could be justified by different functions/sounds. Buying this one would stop this logic as it would probably be close to my 4003 soundwise.
