So yeah, I'm in Austin, TX now.
It's incredible here. Everything. Words cannot describe.
I was in a band for a few weeks, did a gig with them and was writing new stuff then got canned this week. It was sort of mutual. They were offered a day SxSW (South By Southwest) gig at 2PM on a Thursday and only gave me a few days notice. I couldn't get off of work so they had a guy fill in for me. I was cool with that. I moved here for work with music being a secondary thing, ya know? Apparently someone talked to them after their 30 minute set and filled their heads with delusions of promise about getting signed soon and going on tour with a big name act. Bear in mind that this was their 2nd show. Anyway, their heads got a little big and they pussyfooted around about saying whether I was coming or going, so I forced their hand on the issue. I don't have time for the BS. So the guitarist finally called back and said "well, we have 2 upcoming gigs. you can play those if you want but we're gonna hit the road soon and we need someone who can tour." I told him to **** or get off of the pot. "Go ahead and find a permanent guy now. If you get in a bind for the gigs, let me know." So that's that. No biggie. I've immersed myseld in the band scene here and have made some great contacts. My odl Motorhead tribute project is almost ready for practicing as I have some guys here who wanna do it, so that's cool. There are also 2 original bands I am setting up jams with to see what happens. Life is good.
I am also buying a 99 MIA Jazz this weekend to go along with my 79 and 80 Rics.
I'll be heading to Dallas in a few weeks for the Dallas Guitar Show to see what Rics are bouncing around up there.
Hope you folks have been well and I'll try to post more often. Thanks for listening! haha

Hey Sean, have you heard of a 3 piece jazz band called Drop Trio from down there? I am a big fan. They are from Houston I think but play alot in Austin too. Their old bass player played a Rick (that's how I found out about them). They have an electric bassist, keyboardist and drummer. Check out droptrio.com from some streaming music. Pretty cool!

OK, the guy who does repair work on The Eggmen's guitars is named Dick Dubois. He's a luthier at Collings Guitars here in Austin, but also has his own repair shop. He's VERY good. He's worked on a couple of my basses, and just finished working on our lead player's Country Gent and is now working on his Les Paul, refinishing it to look like George's. I'm at work so I don't have his contact info on me but I'll get it to ya.
