India...yes. Dum Dum, Kolkata, actually. Not so weird if you're Indian.

Not if you're Indian, no. I was just commenting on the nature of the way they're manufacturing knock-offs complete with a knock-off of the name of the company they're knocking-off.

No harm done.

But finding out they were in an area called "Dum Dum" was worth a chuckle...

It is. And not to get off topic but that reminds me that at one time Coca Cola tried to market their drink in China by spelling out Co Ca Co La phonetically. That means "bite the wax tadpole" in Chinese. I thought that was great.

Sounds similar to what happened to Chevy's "No va" in Spanish-speaking countries ... Image

Oh, and I thought the "Beware of Imitation" thing was quite ironic.

Well there actually are Hong Kong made Givson immitations floating around.

So why do you guys think that their remark about looking out for immitations is "Ironic"? Givson is not Gibson, nor do they try to pass themselves as Gibson, their guitars don't even look like Gibson guitars.

Wouter, their logotype is a Gibson knock-off! Maybe they're not trying to pass themselves off as Gibson, but a little spark from the Gibson fire still remains--borrowed, no doubt.

The "No-Va" tale is apocryphal, as is the Chinese Coca Cola tale only partially true. Anyone doubting this can check with snopes.com.

Damn, no Les Baul model.

The G.S. 1000 is kind of interesting looking though.
