Hmm... Yes. Too bad the pickguard is homemade (and its design is not even period-correct), and both the handrest and the treble pickup are period-inaccurate though.

$1800? I'd have snapped it up at that price, regardless of those minor issues. My 72 currently has a non-period correct treble pickup Sergio (thanks to you!Image). Which is precisely what would've ended up in this...

Shaun, I think many of us would have snapped it up at that price. I hope a Forumite scored it.

By the way, it was manufactured eight instruments earlier than the bass formerly owned by Cole Gaskins and I, which had serial number MC1001. That bass sold recently for $4450. Image

Philip, we definitely live in the wrong place....expensive Rics, ridiculous taxes and terrible weather too!

I missed this by a couple of minutes...

Posted here at 10:30, ran a quick eBay check and went to bed at 10:40...This ran for 8 views finishing at 10:45...

A no brainer at that price...

And, as a footnote, and talking about close serial numbers, my funky '73 # MC 939 will go up on the bay next week.

This would be a shameless plug - Hey you guys with your funky 73's, have you seen what parts are going for on Ebay?

Part out those funky things and sell that carcass to me.

I guess I should count my blessings that I was able to buy a July 1973 JG on eBay in February for only $1200 Image Couldn't do that now, even a month or two later Image

Hey Shaun - it plays very well! Nice thin neck and low action. I've only had flats on it, so it's hard to compare the sound to my other Ricks with rounds. Not to sure about the weight comparison either - it certainly doesn't jump out at me as being significantly lighter or heavier than other 4001/4003's.
