Hmm... Yes. Too bad the pickguard is homemade (and its design is not even period-correct), and both the handrest and the treble pickup are period-inaccurate though.
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.
$1800? I'd have snapped it up at that price, regardless of those minor issues. My 72 currently has a non-period correct treble pickup Sergio (thanks to you!). Which is precisely what would've ended up in this...

By the way, it was manufactured eight instruments earlier than the bass formerly owned by Cole Gaskins and I, which had serial number MC1001. That bass sold recently for $4450.
I guess I should count my blessings that I was able to buy a July 1973 JG on eBay in February for only $1200 Couldn't do that now, even a month or two later

Hey Shaun - it plays very well! Nice thin neck and low action. I've only had flats on it, so it's hard to compare the sound to my other Ricks with rounds. Not to sure about the weight comparison either - it certainly doesn't jump out at me as being significantly lighter or heavier than other 4001/4003's.
