Which strings for McGuinn 370-12???

Post by kvalois »

Hi:

Which strings should I use for my 370-12. I know Roger uses Pyramid, but they seem to be expensive. Any suggestions?

Karl, I have the standard RIC 12-string set on my 370/12RM FG and love them. It had Pyramids on it when I got it, and they felt stiff. And it wasn't that they were old; I put fresh Pyramids on my 370/12RM MG and they too felt too stiff, so I put a RIC set on it, too.

Karl, go to the 'Rickenbacker Guitars' section of this forum and read the Thomastik-Infeld thread. TI's are the flatwounds you would want to use on your guitar for 60's Byrds tones. They deliver as close as possible to the original factory strings without the high tension and stiffness Pyramid strings give.

The standard RIC 12 compressed round set are excellent strings too for modern sounds.
