SoCal 2007 Song writing and recording info

Post by charlyg »

I now have ProTools recording properly, although the click track needs some help. I should have some bass lines up this week. They will be skeletons to work from. I want to upload a few lines for people to loop, see what works and we'll go from there. My goal is one slow blues, one boogie, and one "jam". The first two will have lyrics.

Or........who knows?

Ok here's the basic problem folks. I can' seem to play along with just a click track. Would you mind if I uploaded my awful playing and someone else lay down the bass lines for you to work on? I really want to do something with tRick song2 especially.

What I mean by I can';t play with the click track is, I don;t hear it well enough to keep good enough time. Does anyone have a setting for the click track in Pro Tools that is nice and loud AND clear?

Try adjusting your input/playback knob. If that doesn't work, let me know and I'll send you some drum tracks to play to.

Drum tracks would help. THe beginning and end of the tracks I posted are on time, but I had some trouble hearing the click track in the middle. Either drum tracks, or just put up new bass lines. I was told at work, I need to start slow when first using click tracks and work my way up to speed. That could take a bit of time, and we are fastly approaching August!

What makes recording with a click track difficult is all you hear is 1,2,3,4. With a drummer or any other instrument, you have more 'clues' to allow your ear to find the beat. For example, if the drummer is playing eighth notes on the hi hat (1+2+3+4+), it's much easier to hear where beat 2 is going to fall.
