A guitar solo on "Mr. Kite" ?

Post by blazer »

www.BeatlesGear.com

And once again I read that Paul McCartney played his Fender Esquire through a Selmer amp on the solos for "Good Morning, good morning" and "For the benifit of Mr. Kite"

But I never heard a guitarsolo on "for the benifit of" let alone a guitar at all.

The other songs from Sgt Pepper which feature Macca's guitar playing are "fixing a hole" and the title track and it's reprise.

So where does the notion come from that Macca played a solo on "for the benifit of Mr. Kite"?

Interesting.

I don't think I've heard of any guitar solo in "For the Benefit of Mr. Kite", either. I suppose it's possible that there was a solo once upon a time in that song, but I've never heard of one.

I hear a guitar near the end of the initial "wash" of sound just over halfway through the song. It is certainly not an "out there" solo, but this could be what is being talked about.

There is a solo guitar on Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite. Listen to it on the 5.1 mix of the Love CD - It's quite pronounced there. It's a very staccato type of solo.

Ahhh...

I've never listened to the surround mix on the record - I'll have to give it a re-spin.

Sure, it's the one that sounds like an echo-saturated Greek bouzouki...you hear it just before the abrupt piano chords preceding "the band begins at ten to six..." But I would never have guessed it to be a Fender electric! If so, yet another amazing effect.

Dosen't sound like a guitar to me at all... I thought it was ah uh... Clavesin.. if that's what it's called.

a piano that plucks the string instead of hitting them!

Besides the over mix of an organ, harmonium and other effects, a glockenspiel was used as well. Lennon wanted a calliope, but one wasn't available.

Looking for a calliope in EMI's basement.
