Geddy Plays Rick - *Spoilers*

Post by markbass99 »

Just saw on a couple of message boards that Geddy pulled out the rick for "A Passage to Bangkok" which is the second song in the encore. Haven't seen any pics or other info. He's still playing the jazz on the other stuff and the whole step detuned red jazz on "Circumstances".

I'd prefer it if he pulled the Ricky out at the START of the gig, then smashed the Jazz as an encore. Cool! LOL!

Mark, that's the way it was on the Signals tour in '82, except he played the Jazz for one song, 'YYZ'...it was the encore...

We all know he isn't gonna play the Rick a lot, but the fact that it made it all is a bloody miracle.
If it was a 4003, then maybe he's 'rediscovered' the Ricky's bottom end.....

He pulled out the Rick?! *dances*
Now I'm even more upset that I don't have $40 for a lawn seat at Darien Lake. It's time to borrow money!

Maybe in a few weeks he listens to some recordings of their last gigs and he thinks: "Hey that Ric sounds surprisingly good with Bangkok!" Maybe he's gonna pul it out for even more songs Image

I'd be more excited if he used it for the whole show. But for one song? ummm...

I just got back from seeing the DC area show, and when we got there they were still doing their sound check (!) I have to say it was the best I've seen out of them in a few tours, they were on their game. They sounded much better in the FOH than they have in years IMHO, that may be due to Claire Bros. handling their sound on this tour.

The Rickenbacker 4001 was used once again for 'Passage To Bangkok', which made me smile..Image I thought it cut through pretty well, but I have to say that the Fenders were dialed in pretty well. It was a super show, and my 16th show, every tour since 1981...

Just got back from the Rush concert in Va. Beach, it was an awesome show. I was third row right dead in front of Geddy's mic/w taurus pedals, about 25 ft away. I wasn't expecting the sound to be so good that close to the stage but Alex's amps were at a decent volume and I could hear the PA really good since it was high up but angled down some. Geddy was getting a nice nasty snarl out of his 72 j-bass and it sounded pretty decent. The red custom shop j-bass that he plays on Circumstances was a beautiful trans red finish and I was close enough to see the flame in the body wood since it doesn't have a pickguard. As advertised, the rick we all know and love came out for Bangkok and you could tell immediately the mids were strong and rich, and there were no lack of lows either. To be fair though the j-bass did sound good, he knows how to get his "sound" through his fingers that's for sure. Some of the high points for me were Natural Science, seeing the rick of course, and all of the new songs were great, they really came to life on the stage.
