For Sale: Ampeg PortaBass 250 amplifier

I am selling my minty PB250 with a custom made black anodized aluminum rack adapter. This is a great sounding amp, works great for keyboards and clean sounding guitar.

$300 is what I'd like to get as the rack adapter alone cost me $145 to get made.

16 lbs is what mine weighs I think. I just bought one at Sam Ash!

14 lbs. + about 5 oz. for the rack adapter.

That's about 17.5 watts per pound. My SVT-2 Pro is 4.25 watts per pound. Watts per dollar is no contest....

Gah, i've been gigging so much lately and the weight of my Ampeg B200R is really starting to get to me. Going lightweight would be wonderful, but it would require I switch to a head/cab setup. I kinda like using a combo.

John, do yourself a favor and go check out some Markbass combos. Guitar Center is the exclusive dealer, which kind of bites, but it's worth a tryout.(4004's love Markbass).

Jeffrey, I made a rack adapter similar to the one you have for my Little Mark II. The factory ones are slow to the market and don't look as good as some of the one's that are being homemade. All you need is a two space rack plate, figure out where you want the amp on the plate and trace the outline. Cut out the outline with a jigsaw and file the rough edges, check your fit. Make some aluminum angles to mate the amp to the plate, you will have to get some metric hardware to attach to the sides of the amp. Depending on how you mount the angles and how clean your hole is, you can have the face of the amp flush with the plate for a very clean look.

John, when I want to go light I take my bass in a gig bag, my amp in a small bag with cables and other accessories and a small 1-10 cabinet. Easy to carry and versatile as I can choose different speakers depending on the gig. Combos are nice, also, but do not offer as much in the way of flexibility.

You've seen this before but...

Bass in gig bag over one shoulder, speaker in one hand, amp, etc. in the other!

I would suggest looking at speaker cabinets with lightweight technology, such as the Markbass 1-12:

John, the rig picture I posted above doesn't look like much but it gets extremely loud for 300 watts coming out of a 29lb 12" speaker cab. I had the master volume just a little below 12:00 and I was checking out a new B string on the Laredo and I was getting some incredible feedback(on purpose,ala Larry Graham), the room was shaking like there was an earthquake going on, it was off the hook. Of course the Sansamp was preamping it slightly...
