My search to find a 4004 is finally over!

Post by crazypink »

After searching 10 years for a 4004 I finally found one in Germany, unfortunately none were to be found in the UK! I managed to pick up a NOS 1993 4004 Laredo in Jetglo from a music shop who had it displayed since 1993. Luckily it is in mint condition with only a few very light scratches, not bad for a bass that has been shop soiled for the best part of 14 years! It plays and sounds even better than I thought it would, very warm, loud and bassy.

After being told there was no case, they managed to find a rickenbacker one in their basement, when it finally arrive to my surprise it turned out to be a vintage case, what a bonus!

Checked the serial number on the Rickenbacker website which gave June 1993 as the manufactured date!

Does anyone know when the first 4004 was made and whether it was a Laredo or a Cheyenne?

The 4004Ci was first, then the Laredo followed by the Cii. I'm sure Paul Boyer will chime in with some specific years.

Very nice Laredo and congrats BTW! The maple fretboard is a nice feature from that era.

That looks really nice with the maple fretboard.
