Rickbid.com
Bjorn Eriksson has just added a new site, Rickbid.com to his well known Rickbeat.com. This provides another information source with regard to Rickenbacker instruments on the Internet.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

I have just read with interest, comments made by Bjorn Eriksson regarding Rickbid.com. He raises some interesting, and in my view valid, points about the benefit of a specialty site for the sale of Rickenbackers online. His comments are here.

I've registered and logged in and am contemplating which RIC to put up there....hmmmmm....
Andy, on the e-mail that you received from when you registered, did you scroll down it and click on the link? Double check that and then try to log on again....

I can't do more than agree with Anthony. I really hope that people will start to take advantage of all the features on this site! It is solely built for its purpose with many great functions. Read about them on http://www.rickbid.com in the news column, About this auction site!
Now to the main purpose of this post.
I am very proud to announce that this site is now certified. This means that, when logged in, all members will operate on this site under a secure connection. It is of course secure when you register, too.
Hope to see you on rickbid! Welcome!

The only problem I see is getting people convinced it operates like Ebay. What happenes if you get bogus bidders? Is there any assistance offered? I used to check out the Yahoo auctions and that was a ghost town. I'm not nocking anyone, I apologize if it comes out the wrong way. But there are over a Bajillion people logged onto Ebay. It's so easy to use, even though their customer service needs to be revamped... I'd like an ALL-RIC auction site. I think it's be cool but try convincing all these other guys to stray from Ebay..
"Take the RIC... Leave the cannoli."
Don,
It can surely be a problem when members are trying to manipulate their auction.
Bogus bidding is illegal and a violation of online auction policies. If discovered, they
will be treated according to the terms and conditions for rickbid, which in this case means that the member's (bogus bidder's) account will be terminated immediately. That is about all I have the right to do according to the terms and conditions of this site. Any dispute between seller and bidder must be resolved by turning to a third party like Square Trade, http://www.squaretrade.com or similar.
However, I strongly believe that a "specialized" auction site like rickbid will mainly attract serious sellers and buyers to become members. This means also that these members are certainly very much aware of the expected quality and reasonable prices for the items listed here. I will personally monitor listed items trying to discover any attempt of fraudulent activities. However, you must remember that people who really want to perform illegal activities are sometimes very smart. It is not possible for anyone to guarantee full protection.
rickbid is a very small auction site, indeed, and its organisation is very uncomplicated. Compared to giants like eBay (since it is mentioned in the previous post) with an almost oversized organisation, you can speak directly to the "boss" if you encounter a problem. Just like every other online auction site, rickbid will give assistance if the problems are technically related to the site. And just like eBay, rickbid does not provide mediation, collect payment or otherwise force a member to complete a transaction.
I really hope that rickbid will be a safe place for those who wish to use it!
Right now the registration is free, just as the use of all the extra features. There are ways to verify each member more thoroughly when regestering by adding a fee for membership. This would force presumptive members to provide evidence of that the information they provide when registering is correct. Hopefully this will not be necessary.
All the best,
Björn Eriksson
