RIP Tom Snyder

Post by lyle_from_minneapolis »

I was sorry to hear Tom Snyder died. As much as he was easily imitated and ridiculed, his interviews were like no other, and through the smoky haze a lot of revealing information came across.

I absolutely loved Tom Snyder! The guy was such a breath of fresh air as an interviewer and always seemed to get his guests to open up more so than his contemporaries could. Thanks for the great times, Tom; I'll always be a fan.

Once again, I'm picturing the scene in the Waiting Room Of The Afterlife, this time with adjacent plastic chairs occupied by Tom S. and Ingmar Bergman...

Ingmar: "Death is a metaphor."

Tom: "Alright, sir...fair enough..."

HA! Great comeback, Mark; the man himself would have appreciated that one. Image

Dane, your own comment brought me back--not to Snyder, but to Danny Ayckroyd's impression, which was spot-on.

You know it Paul...the good ol' days of American comedy: how I miss 'em.

Not one of the current herd of SNL goofballs can get a suitably pompous, guestus-interruptus Charlie Rose spoof together? What gives? Is it just a lack of talent when comparing them to the likes of Ayckroyd, or is it a testament to Charlie's media omnipotence compared with Tom's 3-throws-for-a-dollar carnival-dunking-pool clownishness?

What a great interview Sean. Thanks for providing the links. RIP Tom.

Did you ever see the Johnny Rotten interview? He didn't give Tom a chance.

Godspeed Tom. Image

He locked eyes with his guests and asked well-researched REAL questions. It is a lost talent.

Tom worked early in his career in the building I work in here in the Zoo on WKZO radio. His name was on the ceiling above where his desk was until our tv operation took over that part of the building a few years ago when radio left and redecorated the room for a manager and painted over it. Boobs.

I enjoyed the late night interviews and missed them when he was replaced. RIP Tom!

That Kiss interview was a riot. I meant to just watch a few minutes and watched both parts. Poor Tom, haha! Can you imagine saying Gene Simmons is the bass (fish) player? I used to get that in Lima a lot.
