The '73 MG is here

I received Friday, and barely had time to plug it in before running off to meet some dear friends from out of town. Saturday was reserved for playing the heck out of it, and Sunday I cleaned it up and took some pictures. Monday I post them. That's now. So here they are.

Front:

Even the neck is pretty:

Ooh, they're wavy: (one fell out during cleaning but seems OK now)

Now, the not so good. The back has some pretty big patches of buckle rash:

The chrome surround is a little rusty and looks like it got attacked with a shiv in a prison yard fight. Somehow the wood around it is fine:

The bottom looks ... singed?

The bridge is better than the surround, but has a small area of missing chrome, and there are lots of small dents on the back, and some in the front. That said, I think most of the flaws aren't too noticeable when it's in playing position. Some weird battle scars ... not sure I want to know where those came from.

Of course, my joy is mingled with sadness as I have to let my first 4001 go. I still love the autumnglo, but it's better that it go to someone who will appreciate it and play it more than I'd be able to (and it most certainly is). Maybe someday when I have the space and the resources, this one will come back to me.

Man, that thing is gorgeous!! Too bad about the Autumnglo, but i'd say you traded up.

Wow! That has got some major figured maple. Dont worry about the belt rash and other blems..,,this way you can play it without worrying about putting a mark on her.

I agree that this is an upgrade, and the sound suits my style, too. I think that I'm more comfortable with a worn-in bass because I'm not too worried about adding to the collection of dings. Plus, if it's been played, it probably plays good!

That picture of the AG is, I think, the most representative shot I've gotten of its color.

Don't mean to be a stickler, but I think the correct abbreviation is ATG for Autumnglo. And that one's a beaut! What year is it? Looks a lot like my '76.

Oh, yeah, your new one doesn't look half-bad either. Actually, it's amazing!

Me too John, me too. That thing is gorgeous. The dings etc don't bother me one iota.
