Advice! 1986 Ric 330 left handed
Hi there
I'm new to this forum and to rickenbackers. It would be great to have some advice.
I am considering buying a left handed 1986 330 six string. It's candy apple red. It's in great playing condition but it has several knocks and scratches. It's certainly seen some action! I'd say it's its condition is 7/10.
As I'm new to rickenbackers I'm a bit unsure of what I should pay for it. It would be great if anyone could give me an idea of what I should be paying?
Thanks!

Hi Nick! Welcome from me also. The "candy apple red" you're referring to could well be a "ruby red" in which case it's not a common Rickenbacker colour. Does it have black or white trim/hardware?
Hard to judge the value but I reckon Greg could be on the right track.... equates to around $2800 Australian which is probably a bit over the odds here - then again, a bit of mojo may add some value.
However, the English Rick market continues to baffle me so I'd wait for an indication from either Peter or Graham Griffiths as to what is a reasonable (or not) price is.
If this is not the one for you don't give up..... owning your first Rickenbacker is like reaching the legal drinking age...... party time!!

Nick, in Aussie dollars, that equates to 3 thousand pounds, seems way to steep for a second hand, slightly battered Rick! But that all depends on wether you really want this particular guitar! Have a browse through ebay in the States,i'm sure you'll find many cheaper, and newer ones. UK ebay as well may have some!
Best of luck!

Good afternoon all, my personal opinion is that here in the UK £1200 is probably about right for a 330/6 in a rare colour (which Ruby is) in good original condition. I would say to you, check it out thoroughly if you like it then buy it as you could have a long wait for another to surface.
Regarding personally importing one, be prepared to pay around £100+ shipping and then 24% VAT & import duties on the gross amount + a shippers handling fee (Parcelfarce charge £13) + insurance.
Also be aware that unless you know and trust the seller you may end up with a POS, a case with a brick in it or even nothing at all! Also due to a change in credit card terms and conditions you are no longer covered for internet fraud if you pay with Paypal (or any other third party system). So on Ebay (for example) you bid, you win, you pay, you wait, you wait, you wait, you cry!
