The bloody dream of the returning RED and Black

Post by simondohertyuk »

I would pay money to get a fricking new 330 or 360 in Red and Black. I know they don't do it anymore but is there any chance it could return before 2005?

I'm pretty sure John Hall has said red was a poor-selling color, and I know he's said that black trim sold poorly. Don't hold your breath.

Keep watching eBay.... the red and black ones seem to turn up there pretty regularly. Granted, they're not NEW, but some of them are in excellent condition.... Just make sure you keep asking the seller questions until you're satisfied that it is the guitar you really want!

There are some very good buys to be had when it comes to the red finish with black trim.

I have seen situations in which people couldn't get what they wanted or were unable to sell easily due to this color combination.

I am not really sure why, however, my own personal preference for trim on a red finish would be chrome. When you think about it, there may be some "new old stock" instruments in this color in mint condition. In any event, I would be very surprised to see a new one of these in any store in the near future.

I just checked out of curiosity, and there is one up for bid right now....

It has a few chips along the edges, though. But if you keep checking, I'm sure you will find the one you want!

Really, buying guitars on eBay is quite addictive (that's where all my Rics have come from).... I need to be careful that this habit doesn't put me in the red!

Hey, this point may be moot, with that Red/black geetar on ebay and all, but with a 330, changing out chrome to black hardware is not that hard at all! I did it once with a 4003S that I owned, it had the black hardware, and I changed everything to chrome including a white pickguard. If you really have a Jones for a Red/Black 330, it isn't that hard to make one if you just find one with the Red finish....

. . . as long as you can find the black hardware somewhere. We have almost no black items in stock anymore. (Finally!!)

I changed the white pickguards and nameplate on my Fireglo 330 to black. I added toasters and left all the metal parts chrome. Looks cool in my opinion and I have not seen any others like it

My main Ric is an '89 330 red w/white & chrome option. I originally got the red one becuase they had discontinued both BurgundyGlo AND Ruby.
