What other basses do you own ?

Post by rickengrowl »

Thought it'd be interesting to know what basses people here own besides their RIC(s)...

The only other bass I have is a Fender MIJ Precision Bass 70's reissue, in olympic white, with black pickguard and rosewood fretboard. Quite different from the 4003, but gorgeous and killer too.

Cheers,
JL

Salut, Jean.
Well, I believe this topic has been addressed before, but here goes.
Besides my Rick basses (six at present), I own four Gibsons (1969 EB-3/1977 Thunderbird/1975 Grabber/1974 Ripper) and six Fenders (late 70's Jazz Bass/early 70's Jazz Bass/ early 80's Precision Bass/1968 Telecaster Bass/1971 Musicmaster Bass/1967 Mustang Bass). Recent departures include a late 70's Kramer 4000 DMZ, a '76 Jazz and a '68 Precision.
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.

My RIC 4004L is the reigning Tone King, but I have an acquired taste for cheap but nice playing basses such as: an OLP MM2 4-stringer (StingRay copy) in metallic pearl blue. Just bought an OLP SB4 (Spector NS-4 copy) in transparent red with figured maple top and EMG pickups.

As long as OLP keeps up the good work, I will buy the 4-string version of every classic bass they copy. Good riddance to my strike-era '75 Fender P-bass.

1976 4001 Fireglo
1998 Fender Geddy Lee (Quite broken in)
19?? Hamer 12 stringer

The Geddy Lee bass I bought with the non-original pickguard. The only thing I really thought was totally stupid was the truss rod adjustment at the neck/body joint. 1.) I think it's not a really good place for it, and 2.) I had to cut with a Dremel a piece off the pickguard and into the wood just so I can get to the adjustment if necessary!!! Other than that, it's a really nice playing bass.

I recently added a Euro Spector ReBop 4-string, and it's my current fave. If I add another bass anytime soon, it will probably be a Euro Spector neck-thru or 5-string ReBop. The 4004L is in Arkansas doing some rehydrating where the humidity is higher so I can do final neck adjustments later on this year.

Well, here's what's left. I recently sold my 9 Hagstrom bass collection. Each bass was a different model. I moved on.

1966 Tele-Star Teardrop (Copy of Vox, my 1st bass)

1967 Vox Constellation IV Teardrop

1973 Rickenbacker 4001

1989 Greco Thunderbird IV (Copy 64 Gibson T-Bird)

1999 Dillion VMB-500/5 with active electronics

2002 Hofner 500/1 62 Re-Issue

I'm planning on adding a new Jerry Jones Longhorn very soon.
