Oh my, I'm just going to have to get one of these...in the cream tolex, of course. It looks like I'll be brown bagging it for awhile once I land that new job-gotta save some $ for one of these!

I like the cream chicken head knobs. Vox thinks like me; I put cream chicken head knobs on both of my current AC30s to make them look even cooler/more vintage(the original amps in the 50s didn't have them, did they?)...and aid in seeing where the hell my knobs were pointing on the darkened stage!

Does anyone have thoughts on Piggyback vs. combo?

Just for transportation reasons, I'd go for the head/cab configuration. In fact, I did just that over the last month or so when I got the AC-30CCH and 2x12 cab.

Yeah, it takes up more room in the car, but it's easier to make two 45 lb. trips up/down the stairs (3rd floor walkup here) than it would be to wrestle with a 70 lb. combo.

Besides that, tubes in a combo take more of a vibrational beating than they do in the head version.

There is another reason to go head+cab, and that is that the EF86 is more susceptible to microphonics- and that gets worse with more vibration.

Since I really have come to like pentode preamp tubes (EF86 and its ilk,) I don't foresee going back to combos really soon. This also allows me to mix and match speaker cabs for the best sound.

I like a seperate head and cabinet myself too for the same reason....matching up different heads with different speaker cabinets is a lot easier.
