Just saw this on ebay. Modified with 2 jazz bass pickups and active electronics. Just get an active jazz, for Pete's sake.

The strings don't even remotely align with the bridge pickup.

That poor bass! :x Is that an RC, for March 1978? I have never seen a RIck routed out on the back like that for a battery and preamp box, Alembic-style. Usually they will cram them into the control cavity.

Hopefully, someone restores that poor bass!

I couldn't see the pics from the auction that Sean posted.

As to the original listing that Brian posted about (http://cgi.ebay.com/RICKENBACKER-4001-B ... dZViewItem), I'm guessing that $850 is too much, given all of the restoration that would need to be done. Is this thing beyond hope? What would it take to restore this thing with the original-style pickups and the stereo jack? If Dale, Paul, Elys, or anyone else with experience with this sort of thing can provide any guidance, I'd appreciate hearing what you think. Can that body cavity even be filled back in, or is the damage too great?
