Taking down your last name

Post by phlemmy »

In the profile settings, you can now edit your real name. I remember a discussion a while back that some people were not comfortable posting their last names. Now you don't have to.

Goto User Control Panel/Edit Profile/ and change it if you wish.

Is it okay now? A nice possibility, but i wonder whether the administration would approve that or not.

Please note that this feature will be disabled and I would ask you to keep your real name visible. I do not want to have to suspend accounts while we get things together here but I will unless this rule is followed. A word to the wise.

You will note on the page that you used to change your named.

I think having our full names can keep it under control a little more than on some forums, ever see those free for alls where everyone flames everybody else? John Allgare (SP?) and I were both members of the Ampeg forum which went one step farther, it didn't even have a moderator. That place was ridiculous even though funny at times, there were two guys who would go to any lengths to irritate each other, was unbelievable. Having your name readily accessible makes things a little more civil.

The worst forum I was ever in was the 2400 Fulton * group on Yahoo.
Downright filthy trash a good deal of the time.
And a lot of people used real names and knew each other.
I left that group after about nine months.

* 2400 Fulton Street is the house in San Francisco owned by the Jefferson Airplane for a while.
