Did you know about "The Fish"?
Did you know about "The Fish"?
In relayer35.com, there is a nice article about the album "Fragile", and in it I found a tasty factoid about "The Fish". Credit of course goes to the writer, "HP", from 2003:
"Chris Squire's solo piece was called "the fish" as he was nicknamed 'Fish', a reference to his being a Pisces or a predilection for long baths, or both. Eddie Offord was sent off to find a fish name with the right number of syllables for the piece and Schindleria praematurus was the closest he could manage: it's the Linnean name for the smallest known fish (and smallest known vertebrate)."
A Pisces with a predilection for long baths? And their recording engineer Eddie Offord came up with it? Who knew?

Re: Did you know about "The Fish"?
All I know is Chris Squire ain't no small fish.
Re: Did you know about "The Fish"?
I'm a Pisces and you should see my water bill. Makes me feel comfortable - too many allergies. Us "Fish" have to stick together!
Re: Did you know about "The Fish"?
I knew the first two, but not the Eddie Offord bit. I was listening to it last night actually; it's one of my favourite Yes tracks.
Re: Did you know about "The Fish"?
Same here! That Eddie Offord was sent out to find the name, and that he chose it, was news to me too.henry5 wrote:I knew the first two, but not the Eddie Offord bit.

I don't have it handy right now, but I seem to recall (maybe incorrectly) that this tidbit was mentioned in the Dan Hedges biography.
edit - on second thought, it might've stated that it was Mike Tait. Clear as mud, I know.

And let's not forget that Mr. Offord is the subject of "Are You Ready, Eddie?" by ELP.

Love that avatar, Christopher, of the three headed Wal monster.

Re: Did you know about "The Fish"?
I saw the original three necked Wal in '75 when Roger Newell still owned and played it with Rick Wakeman. I was right at the edge of the stage and in front of Roger the whole time during the King Arthur concert in Cincinnati.
