Looks like a modifed 230 Hamburg...with a Glenn Fry style pickguard added and a third PUP. 235?

That is an odd one. The pickups have been changed from HB2s to hi-gains. The pickguard has been added. I wouldn't call it a 235, though - no vibrato. Maybe a 240?

Could have been a 250 El Dorado, in its former life, since the hardware has been changed (and most everything else). It appears to me that the control knobs on the one for sale are on a diagonal line to each other, like a 250. The control knobs on a Hamburg 230 line up more perpendicular to each other.

But if it left the factory as a 250... what about the binding on the guitar's body?

Moreover, the position of the control knobs would be a function of the aftermarket pickguard, no? I'll take that one back.

The photo I was looking at was from the Bacon book. It has a 250 and 230 next to each other. The 230 in his book is quite different with the knob placements than many others I've seen. As far as the body, that's even harder to tell, since it is a refin. Whatever it was (is), it's not completely its former self

How do you tell the difference between a 230 neck and a 250 neck? Both have dots... both have binding.

Oh, I see, you are right, some of the 230 necks are bound, some seem not to be:

but perhaps that thing has black binding, can't really tell, so maybe they are all bound.

So it's probably just a 230 with the funky stuff done to the body, it's refinished, as it says, and it has the replaced trc.

Perhaps some 230 models didn't come with neck binding... maybe older ones did and newer ones didn't? I suppose it's possible.
