Fender Deluxe 85

Anyone have any experience with this amp? I am thinking of getting one to pair with the EPi Dot Studio coming my way. It supposedly has spring reverb.

I need to find the schematic. I did not notice this thing is a 240V setup. I am hoping there is a transformer tap inside, as most companies didn't necessarily use different parts for intl. It may just be a coil tap, jumper, or some such. Any info would be appreciated. It doesn;t have to be model specific so muxh as Fender specific. Worst case, I can get a different transformer.

Didn't find the 85, but Fender has one for the 90. Three different trannies are on the schematic, but with a little creative jumpering and a variac to check things out you should get there.

I found a schematic for the Deluxe 112 and I think the power supply is similar. It is as I suspected, they are using different transformer taps is all (They showed three but all had the same part number). The only caveat, is the US one has a 2 amp fuse ahead of the power switch, and the 240 has a 1.25 after the switch. I doubt if the circuit board carries both fuse holders so I will just put a 2 after ..........I should get the amp on Saturday.

I looked at the schematic you linked to John, and it looks like I could hook the black/red to P6 or 7 and the Black/green to P8 , unhook everything else on the input, and I would have it. Whichever schematic fits, I should be good to go!

Yeah, sounds like either schematic will get you there. With the 240 tranny having two primary taps in series, just put them in parallel.

OK, got the amp. There is an interesting thing going on. There is a mini fuser holder inside a regular fuse holder, and with my glasses, I can't tell if they are the same connections. The small fuse is being used. There is also a strange jumper thing happening. I have a couple of pix. My ohmmeter ******* out so I need to get another....

One side of that jumper is a brown wire, and the other is brown with a black stripe. One goes in each end and there are screws that tighten down onto each wire. It is that "clear" plastic out of focus thing in the foreground. It almost seems there is a quick and dirty change to switch from 240 to 120 but I can't be sure yet.

Looking good so far. The transformer has 5 in 3 out. There are three wires on the left; black, white, and black w/yellow stripe, and the two on the right are black w/green stripe and black w/red stripe. There are three red output wires on the other side of the transformer. I'm looking at a couple of the schematics now, it's been too many years since I've been at the component level!

I think I got it. Using the Deluxe 90 schematic from the above link, I unhooked the three extra wires, and hooked the black w/red stripe to P7 and the black w/green stripe to P8. Should work fine. I just need a 4A 125v fuse now instead of that puny little mini 1.25A 250v that is in there now!

John you are right about the parallel thing but I'm at a loss as to how to accomplish it.

Let's see if I can make sense of this. My primary connections to the line are P8 and P7 (P6 is shorted to P7).

There are three "jumpers" shown to the left, they say P9,10,and 11 are shorted. Also P13,14,15 are shorted. They show P12 as a N/C. Then from the top, bl/rd(P13), bl/grn(P9), bl/yl(P10), white(P12), black)(8). The first two are a winding and the last three the other winding w/white being a "center" tap. Now what?

Charly, looking at just the 230/240 tranny in the Deluxe 90 schematic, the P8 violet and P14 violet/white tap is for heat protection - if there is a short, the thermo relay opens. You need to pull all jumpers off of the P9 through P15 jumper points. They run one leg (white line neutral P8) to the violet wire, the violet/white wire you would leave on P14, then with a 3 wire jumper you pulled off earlier, jumper together P10, P13, and P14. That connects the outside of the two primary windings to the neutral through thermal protection. Then take a 3 wire jumper and jumper P6 to the black wire marked P6 and to the black/green marked P9. You will need an ohmmeter to make sure what the P jumper spots are doing copper-wise for conductivity and go from there.

THis amp does not have that violet winding on it. Everything else matches pretyy close. except those jumpers are on the board so the shorted pins must be runs on the underside of the board.
