Here's a top 100 list of bassplayers. There are many rankings I disagree with but this one is tops.

Lists like these are always ludicrous. Fieldy ahead of Duck Dunn?

No Carol Kaye or Joe Osborn, but wankers galore.

McCartney should be at LEAST in the top 8!! He's actually MY favorite!

NO JAMES JAMERSON??!!! I wonder what the criterion is? Best name recognition? Who compiled this (I don't know what to call it) anyway?
And they list Duck Dunn with The blues brothers, haha! I'm sure he's not real proud of that moment in his life, (even though I'm sure he made some bucks out of it) They have over 50 years of electric bass players to chose from and 90% of them have only been around for ten years or less, and no acoustic players either. What about Ray Brown? Paul Chambers? Ron Carter? Most of those acoustic jazz (and it's a physically much harder instrument to play) guys could play circles around most of us electric players.
They left out most of the good session players also.

Macca was listed as 32nd when I checked just now, so this list must be "active and fluid". And since it is so "actively fluid", I suggest it be "actively flushed".

I saw that after I posted, it wasn't in the first post and I didn't look at the heading of the list until my second time there.
I don't think that Jaco Pastorius or Victor Wooten qualify as rock bassists' either.

I agree with Bob Young 100%.....you only have to listen to the CD's which accompany the "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" book to realize what an influence James Jamerson had on many of the top players on the list......a bit ludicrous IMHO.

Nice forward from Macca though........
