Amp suggestions needed
Amp suggestions needed
Anyone know of a cheap amp setup that doesn't suck? Looking for a decent combo amp. One that's really lound and will let my sound work with it. before I used a behringer amp and cabnet but I had to sell those because I was moving.. adn now I'm moving back and am ampless.
I used these:
http://www.behringer.com/BX4500H/index.cfm?lang=eng
http://www.behringer.com/BB410/index.cfm?lang=eng
Now I'm not too good with amps, but if anyone has any idea's.. well that's what I'm asking for. Money is a bit of a problem , but I don't know my limit yet as I didn't ask for anything for Xmas and my b-day's next month.

Give us a little more info Nate..kind of music you play.. main guitar...price range?
Re: Amp suggestions needed
Hmmm.
Main guitar.. my 4001. I enjoy the Geddy Lee Exit... Stage Left sound.
I play a lot of metal, Like Maiden, and some proggy stuff, lotta Rush. Play Pink Floyd and Queensryche occasionally too. I dunno. My tates changes from day to day. One day I'll play metal and the next I'll do blues. I need something that can give me clank and crunch and then at a different time give me a lot of bottom and get rid of the clank and crunch. I wish I had two basses, it'd be a lot easier.
Yeah, I don't know what my price range will be. Don't have much money yet. I have $140 now, which isn't enough for anything good, so I'm gonna spend some of it on getting my bass up to snuff. After that, hopefulyl I still hav ea bit and I get some money for xmas and bday.
My main problem was my other amp and cab wasn't portable. I couldn't bring it anywhere. Only time it left the house was to go to my uncles for 6 months and then back.

Hey Nate ...maybe the Behringer BX1200 combo..120 watts 2 channel..12" speaker w/alum cone. it would get you through everything including small stages..you can mic it or also can add speakers,,discount price is $200..not a monster Ampeg but would do the job till your wallet is ready to move up...
Re: Amp suggestions needed
I'd just avoid Behringer stuff....check craigslist and find a good deal on something that you want more but maybe can't afford new...but now it's totally available because it's at a used price.
Re: Amp suggestions needed
Good advice, Alisha. Hey, did you change your username? And a very Merry Christmas to you and a happy and prosperous New Year too!
Re: Amp suggestions needed

Nate, check out the Gallien-Krueger Backline series. Definitely very good gear for the money.

I just think you'll outgrow the Behringer stuff too quickly....And once you hear the difference between that stuff and something a couple steps higher...it'll be no contest.
(I changed my username a couple months ago....all my buddies and family call me "leesh" as a nickname and since you guys are my Rickfamily, I thought I'd just go for it).

You can go for one of these:

or one of these:

and this:

I somehow aquired a Backline-600 through a guitar player. Being a SWR user, when I first saw it I was unimpressed with what it was, but when I used it, though it sounded pretty good. I keep it around it as a back up and use when I go into rehearsal studios that have sub par gear.

Re: Amp suggestions needed
Might be good with just the first one Joey.
Too poor for the rest. I know I'm not gonna get $600. Really screwd at the moment. Wish I didn't sell my other amp, that thing sounded good. And it had an octave pedal, dammit. I should ask my uncle too, he's a guitar player and he might know someone.
At least I get to focus on my singing while I wait.

Re: Amp suggestions needed
Berhringer gear is kind of heavy. I think it would be better at building your muscles than your bass tone.

Re: Amp suggestions needed
Yeah, it is. That's why it only left the house twice, once to go to my uncles and once to go back to the store. But it sounded great. Almost got that Geddy sound, it just had less balls. Oh well, gotta find something soom, before I go insane.

Re: Amp suggestions needed
Look for a used Ashdown MAG combo. You won't be disappointed.

Re: Amp suggestions needed
I hear mixed reviews on Ashdown MAG gear. Some people love them and have had no complaints about them. Some people complain that they although they sound good, they don't hold up well.
