Hi Guys- Just picked up a VOX AD100VT-212 amp for my CW 12. Not sure if I'm really happy with it; sounds a bit "Hollow" to my ears. Or perhaps I just need to mess with it more?
Unfortunantely, I don't have the budget to really get what I want, a Fender blackface twin, and would really like to hear input on what ya'll think the best amp for a Rick-12 would be in the "Economy mode".
In other words, if you had $500 maximum to spend, what would you get that would cover good sound, reverb, chorus, delay, etc.
Whether that be with a modelling amp, or something more basic with an inexpensive pedal, whatever combination.
And if so, what's the best "Economy pedal" out there?
The best I can do, for 500 bucks total in a combo, 1X12, 2X10, 2X12 set-up.
Also, something with a descent overdrive, good twang, etc that will work well with an Epiphone Casino, etc.
Thanks so much in adavnce!!
Christian

Re: Amps for Rick-12's
That VOX can be programmed--you do need to "Mess" with it a bit more. I've got the head/cab version and it's quite versatile.
I've got a real oddball to recommend. It's not a new amp, it's solid state, it's an oddball brand, and you should be able to get a mint one for $375 or so if you check around. It's a closed-back 2-12" combo-styled cabinet. It's the A R T DST-825 modelling amp. Pros: AMAZING programmability and ability to store 72 programs. Great "Marshall-clone" looks. Super build quality. Good support, even though they're no longer made. Cons: Weighs a ton, not an amp for big venues.

Re: Amps for Rick-12's
Thanks for the good words as always Paul. I used to own a DST-830 as a matter of fact!
Nobody seemed to like these amps, but it worked well for me for two years of steady gigging, etc. Use to run the Rick, Casino, and a Firebird through it no problem.
I know they now can be had for cheap, as you say.
Would you put the 825 above the 830?? More of a Marshall sound as opposed to a Fender tone??
The Vox I just picked up just has too many bells; and all the bells are kind of "Cheapy".
I don't need all those amp types, etc, but I do like onboard effects, as I'm not a big pedal guy.
I DO have funds set aside for a Jangle Box for after the 1st of the year, and am very much looking forward to that for helping the Byrds sound, etc.
Thanks again, Christian
