Went Guitar Shopping In NYC

Post by randyz »

I was in NYC on business last week, so I took the opportunity to visit the guitar shops near Times Square on Saturday. After hearing so much about Manny's, I went looking for it and found Rudy's and Sam Ash across the street. I must say I was disappointed. At Manny's I expected to find a lot more guitars. Rudy's was cramped and tiny inside. Sam Ash of course sounded just like my local Guitar Center on a Saturday afternoon (ouch!). Rudy's was somewhat redeemed by a couple of old jazz players showing off their licks on a couple of big hollowbodies. You don't get much of that here in Texas...

I liked Manny's much more before Sam Ash bought it.

The best was "We Buy Guitars". In the old days they took up half the block on the north side. The windows filled with dozens and dozens of vintage guitars...

I like Rudy's. Whenever we're in the city, we hit the strip, check out all the places but I always like Rudy's best. Last time I was there he had a handful of pretty nice Rics.
