'Twisting In Heaven' by Walker

Post by walker »

Hey all -

I've posted another tune from my 2nd CD 'JOYBOMB'. I used to post stuff on Sean's 'Let's Hear Your Stuff!' thread, just thought I join the fray over here also and see what kind of response I get. So here's the latest offering:

Twisting In Heaven

featuring my '76 4001FL on the intro & outro, and my '79 4001V63 on the clean and distorted sections in the middle.

It's interesting all right! Right now I would say, "radio edit" because it was tough to make it through the whole thing. But I enjoyed the music -- lyrics are a touch on the angry side for me.

I for one like the tune – liked it over on the other thread and like it here. To different ears there are different sectors of appreciation… not quite sure ‘angry’ fits with me here. On thing I have noticed over the years is, as one gets away from their zone of desire and comfort, the longer things seem to take. Five minutes here may see like six to some and four to others….

So Mark, any closer to the JoyBomb release?

It's interesting the different ways that the same song can affect people. I totally get the "5 minutes could seem like 4 or 6" syndrome. I can appreciate honest comments whether they're favorable or otherwise. It all gives me bearing on how the music comes across to different people with different tastes. I thought it was cool that Don found the lyrics a bit angry. 'Twisting...' does come from a frustrated angry place, so if this song made people happy, I'd know that I failed to convey the message properly. A certain abrasive quality is desired sometimes. It's like kids with Rock & Roll in the '50's - part of the connection was that their parents hated it.

Oh, Tom... re: JOYBOMB's release - ehh... a lot of what's holding that up is budgetary. I'll still burn some one-offs for friends who are interested, but I need to generate more capital for a real pressing. Ugh. Always about the $$$

Freaking cool Mark! You've really got some great melodic tendencies - almost reminds me of Alice in Chains a bit, but way more "out there", which is a very good thing. I love the moments when the pizzicato strings jump in. Also, this is one of the most metrically weird tunes i've ever heard that actually works out to 4/4!

Thanks, John! That riff can throws off drummers who haven't heard the recording. Where the "1" is implied is not where it actually is, apparently. For a song that sounds like 4/4, but actually does a bit of 7/8 & 9/8 in some places, check out 'Better Than You' from my Myspace page.

Yeah I think pent up frustration would be how I would describe the lyrics. Anyhow - yeah, all you need is cash. Maybe we could have a bake sell or something as a fund raiser.. so you got your permissions and all - great.

I still think you should get a band up and do the college shows.... I think it would go over well!!

Thanks for the encouraging words, guys! Much appreciated.

Man, I would love to do some playing out. I took a hiatus of sorts to catch up on recording (hiatus still in progress) but I can't wait to get out and gig again.
