What is the difference besides the obvious (to me)? I know the 15 is 15 watts with one 12" speaker while the 30 is 30 watts with two 12" speakers. I understand that there is more control with the 30. I saw a demo and the 30 had nice distortion. Does the 15 have any drive built in?
I currently have a 71 Fender Twin reverb. Would an AC30 be too much of the same heavy thing? Any thoughts appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Vox AC15 vs. AC30
there are actually three more knobs on the AC30 CC; there is a "tone cut" control next to the master volume, there is an additional channel(normal), so there's a normal channel volume control, and the reverb has two controls(tone and mix) instead of one(mix).btomlinson wrote:What is the difference besides the obvious (to me)? You should be able to distort either amp quite nicely, as both the AC30 and AC15 accomplish this by the same means, namely cranking the channel volume to the point where the amp breaks, and controlling the overall amp volume via the master volume control.
I don't have an AC15, I have an AC30, so I can't speak for the former, but a lot of the forum guys prefer the AC15. I love my AC 30, which is quite different from a Fender Twin, an amp that I also own, and have used quite a bit.

Thank you for the information. Do you like the VOX or the Twin better?

Re: Vox AC15 vs. AC30
The Vox sounds like a Vox and the Fender Twin sounds like a Twin, and not much common ground between them. You should go play an AC15 or AC30 with the Celestion Blue speakers to tell for yourself. Any of the early Beatles sounds are the Vox sounds and you can't really get there with a Fender. An AC30 w/blues is around as loud as many 50 watt amps due to the efficient speakers, and starts to raunch up around 4 on the dial and really starts to let loose about half way up. An AC15 is similar but would have less headroom. Both are very touch responsive amps as opposed to the Fender Twin. Go play one....that should tell you what you want to know!
