Blues Image - Ride Captain Ride

Post by ric330 »

Anybody remember Blues Image "Ride Catain Ride".

I'm Your Captain

Everybody, listen to me,
And return me, my ship.
I'm your captain, I'm your captain,
Although I'm feeling mighty sick.

I've been lost now, days uncounted,
And it's months since I've seen home.
Can you hear me, can you hear me,
Or am I all alone.

If you return me, to my home port,
I will kiss you mother earth.
Take me back now, take me back now,
To the port of my birth.

Am I in my cabin dreaming, or are you really scheming, To take my ship away from me?

You'd better think about it, I just can't live without it.
So, please don't take my ship from me.
Yeah, yeah, yeah ...

I can feel the hand, of a stranger,
And it's tightening, around my throat.
Heaven help me, Heaven help me,
Take this stranger from my boat.

I'm your captain, I'm your captain,
Although I'm feeling mighty sick.
Everybody, listen to me,
And return me, my ship.

I really liked this tune when it was out years ago but I don't remember hearing anything else from this band. I especially like the guitar solo in the middle of the tune and then the edgier solo at the end. What ever happened to that group? Did they ever do anything after this song was a hit?

Kevin,

As Jerry mentioned both are great tunes. I'm your Captain was recorded by Grand Funk Railroad.

Mark Farner of GFR is still going strong. Blue Cheer?.........research time.

One of the founding members of Blues Image, Joe Lala, went on to work with CSN&Y. He also teamed up with Stills and Hillman in Manasas. I can't say what happpened to the rest of the band members. The band only did about three albums before breakin' it off.

Ride Captain Ride

Seventy-three men sailed up from the San Francisco Bay
Rolled off of their ship, and here's what they had to say
"We're callin' everyone to ride along to another shore
We can laugh our lives away and be free once more"

But no one heard them callin', no one came at all
'Cause they were too busy watchin' those old raindrops fall
As a storm was blowin' out on the peaceful sea
Seventy-three men sailed off into history

Ride, captain ride upon your mystery ship
Be amazed at the friends you have here on your trip
Ride captain ride upon your mystery ship
On your way to a world that others might have missed

Ride, captain ride upon your mystery ship
Be amazed at the friends you have here on your trip

IIRC, I saw Blues Image open up for the Who, right about the time of "Ride Captain Ride", Anaheim Stadium.

That must have been a great concert.
So how as some of their other music aside from "Ride Captain Ride"?

Pinera & Bertematti played for Iron Butterfly, and had a stint with Cactus.
