Horn leading edge finish issues

Post by wittyair »

On more than one of my NEW Rics ( including my DCM ) there is a finish issue along the leading edge of the lower horn. I've noticed it on at least 3 of my 330s. The finish appears kinda feathery and slight. These are new, factory guitars....none of them have been played. Has anyone else noticed anything like this......and, Paul......besides ScratchX/Zymol ( which helps a little ) can anything be done??

"Finish issue" is not very descriptive, Craig...does it appear thin? Rough? Dark? Light?

Pictures would help me to diagnose this and to recommend a fix. But be aware that edges are tricky to work on.

Thanks, Paul
I cant really get a good picture of it....expecially since you have to downsize pics to submit them.
It appears feathery ( does that make sense??) and definitely thin. Same place on all 3.....right on the leading edge.
Definitely a factory thing.

Sorry, Craig, words don't convey what I need to know to diagnose this. And, since it's on several relatively new Ricks, I'd bet it is a factory "thing".

But just what that "thing" is, I can't guess and in any event, guessing wouldn't help anything.

An 800 x 600 picture shows pretty good detail. Thats the size limit here.

Based on the info here, I'm betting Scratch X & Zymol will cure what ails ya.

It's hard to paint sharp edges. I know that some of the Telecaster guys rub shoe polish into their guitars to darken the finish -- maybe it (or a magic marker) would darken up that edge. I'll defer to Paul as to whether this is a wise move, though. 8)

I still can't say anything conclusive without seeing a couple of god closeup photos. Otherwise we're just guessing--not a good thing to do where nice geetars and basses are concerned!
