12 String tuning help

Post by clearblue »

I have a Boss TU-2 tuner. After reading parts of the manual i can't figure out how to read/display octaves on it. Has anyone tuned a 12 string with one of these?

I have the TU 15 tuner, but they are basically similar. I also looked at the TU 2 manual download. It doesn't appear to have the "octave adjust" feature of the TU 15. However, I don't use that with my 12 string guitars as the regular tuning seems to work fine regardless of the octave. It recognizes the pitch high or low.
The most important advise I can give is to make sure you tune the Low "E" a little flat so when you play a "G" at the third fret, the octaves are in tune. Also, make sure the "B" pair are also slightly flat - tune the 3rd fret "D" to the open "D" octave string. This will ensure that the open chords especially are in tune.
At any rate I wouldn't be without the Boss tuner, period. Good Luck!

Thanks for the information. I think I will also pick up one of those tuners.

You might want to look into a Peterson Stroboflip. They have some interesting sweetened tunings and it is an extremely accurate tuner.
