Hi Paul-
I was hoping you might help me. I might be selling my old Rick (67 365) to a buyer in the UK, and I live in the US. What precautions should I take in the shipping proceedure? I don't want the checking already present in the finish to get any worse. I know the cold of flight would not be really good for it, but could one trip cause damage?
Thanks for all you help on this forum- John

Re: shipping an old Rick overseas?
Pack it well. Double box if at all possible, with a minimum of 1" space on the sides and 2" top and bottom. Use a dense filler like Bubble-wrap or lots of crumpled newspaper. Do not use foam peanuts if you can help it. Tape well. Make sure the guitar is well-cushioned inside the case! The old-style cases allow too much movement. Bubble-wrap the guitar, fill around it with old clothing or soft cloths so the case is well-filled.
Tell the person on the receiving end to wait 24 hours before unpacking to minimize thermal shock, but only if the box is cold inside when it's opened.

I've actually thought about that!! It's going to cost the buyer $300 for shipping and insurance. So- I bet I can get a round trip flight for near $500, getting a trip to the UK for $175!! I'm seriously thinking about it. Can you gate check a guitar?scott_s wrote:Why not make a trip of it?![]()
