60 cycle hum

Post by 1OUfan »

Is a 60 cycle hum inherent with the vintage Toasters? I know that they are single coil, so they will have some (much like Strats/Teles) How much is normal and does it seem to change depending on postion of player in relation to the amp?
Thanks---

There is some hum with toasters. This is a very analog problem and can have a lot to do with the interaction with the grounding scheme of your amp, the electrical system of the room and whether you have strongly radiating devices near your guitar (walk up to an old video monitor or TV with a single coil guitar and see how much noise comes out of the amp!)

The toasters are quieter (in hum) than any of my Fenders were (are), except the Buck Owens, which has a lower output pickups and a thick metal pickguard, which acts as a shield. I am insane about hum and find them to be quite tolerable with my amps.
