Geddys bass tech speaks out.
Russ Ryan(Geddys bass tech) speaks out about Geddy's bass setup over on Talkbass, thought a few of you would like a look see.
Re: Geddys bass tech speaks out.
I love this line.
The Rick was setup at rehearsals and never change for the whole tour.

Re: Geddys bass tech speaks out.
Quite contrary to what he's said about the Jazz basses....
I've been reading this thread all along. Someone posted a link back when it was first started. Lots of interesting things if you read the whole thread.

Re: Geddys bass tech speaks out.
I've been reading it as well.
Someone said that the Rick that he brought out for the S&A tour during "A Passage to Bangkok" was an early 70's model.
I think that is not correct. The Rick that he brought out is the same one that he has had since around the time of Hemispheres. He had a jetglo Rick with the white surrond that was shaped like the origional Rick bridge around the Badass bridge that he used pretty much through the AFTK tour and then he had the jetglo Rick that had the neck pickup more in the middle with the more square shaped surround around the Badass bridge. THAT is the one that he used through the Signals tour and just recently on the S&A tour.
I think it has to be a 1977 or 1978 model 4001.

Thanks, Mark. Russ Ryan's comments are interesting. Some old habits are stronger than others.

I personally like the Stingrays. Ged these days has become a bit of a creature of habit when it comes to basses. He's stuck on the Jazz's and their sound. It took a bit of coaxing to get him to use the Rick on the Snakes & Arrows tour.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm
