The Close of another Beatles festival

Well, this past Monday was the close of the annual Beatles festival that Louisville, KY hosts. It's called Abbey Road on the River, as it takes place down on the waterfront. It brings together a variety of bands from around the world to celebrate the music of the Beatles. This year was no exception to the pattern that they have set of bringing some of the best bands together. They kicked off the festival this year with a rooftop concert last Friday afternoon with a Japanese act called the Beatrips. They really have a great sound, performing mainly the Rubber Soul/Revolver era material. I got to see the White Album performed live in its entirety on Saturday night. The Love album was also performed. Earlier in the day there were performances of Beatles For Sale and some other albums. A standout that was on one of the side stages was a German act called Lucy in the Sky. They put together a show that was partly direct covers of the Beatles and some new arrangements of songs. The best one that they played was a modern arrangement of Strawberry Fields. There were also bands performing many of the covers that the Beatles played in their club days. All-in-all, it was a fantastic time again this year and the weather could not have been better for it.

One of the things that I hope that local businesses recognize though is that this is a festival that is worth keeping here in Louisville as there are financial concerns about the lack of solid sponsors for the event. It used to be in Cleveland but was moved here and may be moved again if things don't change in the next few years.
