Help-Value of SUNN Monitors....

I've come to my forum family for more advice.

I have this set of SUNN monitors sitting in my garage for a while. They were given to me by a friend who is in a touring band, they didn't want them because they upgraded there equiptment to some new gear.

Nothing apparently wrong with them, just some honest road use, but I can't find a THING on the internet about these things!

I'd HATE to Ebay them, they would be a killer to ship each tips the scale at about 25 Lbs +/-.

They are 12" monitor cabs. ANY IDEA what I should Craigs List them for?
By CHANCE, anyone here have an interest in them?

ANY information as to year, were they good or not? Etc... would be greatly appreciated!

I wish I knew!

My friend said they worked perfectly, but when they signed up members from the original 4 Seasons, they went out and spent some big money on all new gear.

I thought that if these Sunn monitors were ANYTHING like the old amps they made, it might be worth a shot.

We have monitors at the church, I can swap them out for a test, but they are the amplified HOT SHOT monitors, any idea if this might cause any
incompatibility issues?

If not, I can take them into church and test them out.

I have a set of Sunn PA speakers. They originally had Celestion speakers in them, now they don't..........unfortunately. My Sunn 1976 vintage 610 guitar cabinet also has 6 - 10" Celestion speakers and when used in conjunction with my 1975 vintage Sunn Model T head, they are great sounding speakers .

Your stage monitors will likely have a Celestion in them as well. Sunn gear was once good enough for The Who.

If you have ANY combo amp at home that has an external speaker jack, you could use an instrument cable to plug the Sunn speaker in just to test it. Don't crank things and the instrument cable should be good enough for the test.

Great information, I appreciate it. I'll check to see if it has Celestion speakers in it. Sounds like you have a heck of a classic rig. So, would it be safe to say they are mid 70's?

Jeff, I WISH I could make it to RIO. Janey WAS scheduled to have spinal surgery on 6/5 but due to a pre-surgical test result, it was postponed to ?????? so, we're touch and go until we hear from the Dr's. Then, she will be in a body brace for 6-8 weeks....so my life is on hold until the fall.

I just don't know where I'm going to find boxes for these things! But that can be worked out somehow.
Price? I have NO idea... that was the reason for this thread. Fedex is perfect for me, I have an account with them so that makes it convenient. I'm going to have MORE medical bills to pay for soon so what do you think they might be worth?

THANK YOU John, that is a GREAT IDEA! With my lousy back, it saves me having to move them! Now THAT I can do! Most EXCELLENT idea!

FMV will depend on whethere these work well with no driver issues, but my guess is not a lot anyway as monitor technology and sound quality has improved greatly since the '70s.

You can get boxes and packing from any U-Haul store. I did just that when I shipped my old SWR Bass Monitor 12 a couple years ago to the left coast.

I'll hook 'em up today and test them and I'll let you know if there are any issues...we can go from there I guess.

Ok Jeff, here is the scoop!

Wow, not too shabby! LoL! Actually, one is PERFECT and one has a faint but noticable crackle in it. From the low's to the mids and even some of the highs.

They do sound VERY CLEAR & CRISP, even the one with the crackle in it. I'm surprised if I do say so myself.

I tested each one from the output on my Hartke Combo head. They reproduce the full spectrum very well. MUCH better than those ****** Hot Shot monitors we have at church. These thing REALLY handle the low end very well, I don't know if those are horns or just ports, but they really sound good!

Volume knobs work, well ONE does LOL, the MISSING KNOB monitor was adjusted by turning the shaft where the knob used to be!

I looked over the speaker that crackles and the cone looks fine. What it is, I have no idea. Could just be dirty contacts to a bad speaker, I just don't know.

I used two Sunn Model T amps and two - 610 Sunn Model T bottoms to tour with Rory Gallagher in 1975. I kept one set. So yes it is a vintage rig. It still sounds great.

I have been approached many times to sell it......................but I always say no. My PA Cabs are 2-10's. They were used by many bands back then as monitors facing the drummer. PA equipment has come a long way since then.

Good luck with the sale. I have no idea what they are worth, I just know that they were high end monitors in my day.
