Lapsteel shoes - a drop in for a 60's 4000?
would the shoes from a 60's lapsteel be an exact match for the missing shoes of a '66 4001?

I believe so, but I'm not sure. Wints should know for sure. I have a '63 steel I've often considered doing something with, but I probably won't. Lap steels are COOL.

No, I meant the poor lap steel!brycycle wrote:if you're implying i got the bass, John - my query was sparked by the situation, but i haven't bought it.

i'd definitely hunt for a donor before considering butchering a fit Ric of any manifestation...
but - back to the topic, is there a specific era of lapsteel that uses identical shoes?
thanks-

Post war lap steels. 1 1/4" shoes. So far I've avoided taking shoes from a steel - seems sacrilegious.brycycle wrote:i'd definitely hunt for a donor before considering butchering a fit Ric of any manifestation...

Carve em up!
I have no problem, and remember helping someone here back in 2002. I do believe that's what possibly got the ball rolling on this topic...

Bryce, do you have an underground lair filled with minions who do nothing but search for stray Rickenbackers for sale all day and night? I do a decent amount of poking around, and I don't even see three-quarters of what you scarf up. It's quite impressive. Or maybe I suck at looking.brycycle wrote:if you're implying i got the bass, John - my query was sparked by the situation, but i haven't bought it.

Jake, i still think you've had better luck than me.
i flip through the ads on lunch now and then and get lucky...there are programs that make Craigslist more easily traversed, too...
but, being quick off the draw doesn't prevent getting shafted by seller's that back-out of a deal when greed kicks in..

If the shoes are 1.25' wide, they will work. From the 60's should definitely be. I was surprised to see a pair of shoes go on Ebay a couple of weeks ago for only $200.
I just picked up a doubleneck 8 string(D-16 I think?) off Ebay real cheap, and was considering ripping out the shoes, and reselling the rest. Lucky for my conscious, I decided to flip it to someone who is going to use the heck out of it, and play it on stage. He was a very happy camper, as I held back on the greed factor too.
