Hi everybody!
I have a 1979 MG 4001 that has had a route on the body between the pickups for a P-Bass pickup.
I would like to have a pickguard made that not only covers this mistake, but includes the bridge pickup.
If I remove the pickup surround, will there be increased hum? Will there be a problem adjusting the pickup high enough? Will there be additional problems that I haven't thought of?
Also, I was wondering if anyone has done this. I have not seen any 4001s or 4003s modified this way, so I figured that there might be a reason why???
Any thoughts will be appreciated!
Thanks!

I am guessing you would have a situation with the bridge pup not high enough. What I would do is get a vintage-type guard to cover the area between the neck and the bridge pup surround. You'd need a custom one because the neck pup would need to be at the 1" position, unless the bass was also routed to have the neck at the 1/2" position.
