Good blues here!

Post by soundmasterg »

For those of you in the Northwest or for someone who wants to travel here, the Waterfront Blues Festival is going on this week in Portland, Oregon. It always has great blues music and some cool cats you might not see elsewhere and has a great vibe. The performers as well as the fans always have a good time. I have quite a few local friends from the local blues scene who are playing this year including the Strangetones, the Insomniacs, and others. Check it out if you're so inclined!

Some nice acts performing there! Fred Wesley (James Brown's longtime 'bone player), Curtis Salgado, Mannish Boys and Eric Lindell stand out in particular. Two of my friends are sax players with Lindell, DC transplants to NOLA who were large on the local scene; Derek Huston who plays w/ The Iguanas and Jimmy Carpenter, who held the sax chair w/ Jimmy Thackery for a number of years and now works with Walter "Wolfman" Washington. Looks like a cool event.

I don't recognize most of the ones you pointed out, but I know Curtis Salgado. He's been into our local jam quite a few times and has performed also. I've spoken to him on numerous occasions and he's always great to talk to and even better to watch......such passionate vocals and harp playing! I'm glad he is doing better after the liver transplant a couple years back.
