You left ev’ry dresser open
When you left with all your clothes
Walkin’ in that empty bedroom

Now I’m linin’ up the longnecks
In this dim El Paso bar

But that light was bound to fall

Cos tomorrow’s cold n dark

Sometimes I wish I was a richer man
Or that you’d take me for who I am
But I don’t wish to take things as they are

Cos it’s safer in the shadows
Drinkin’ in a land of dreams

Knowing what forever means
