Crate Tubes

Post by johnallg »

What's the odds this would sound good using Ric-O-Sound with the bridge pup on a 4001/3 bass?

Well, I don't know about bass, but I have a Crate V1512 (15watt,12inch) and I really like it. It's a bit muddy sometimes by itself, but with a little help from a Vox Cambridge 15, a Rt66 and a Luxury Drive, it sounds great with either my '66 330 or my 2002 360PB (that's what I've decided all JG360's are now called, since Peter Buck doesn't have a signature model.)

Anyhow, for about $300, it's a great all-tube amp. I used to scoff at Crate amps, but I think they offer a great bargain, and the V1512 has been compared to the AC-15. Not having owned an AC15, I have no idea if this is a fair comparison or not! It's definitely a better amp than a Blues Jr, if that gives a better idea of what it can do.

I don't know the guitar amps tonally, only by model number and what I've read here. Crate is a Loud company, same as Ampeg, and were both part of SLM before that. I'm just wondering how it would compare to an old Marshall Super Bass 100.....
