My Fireglo 4001c64s from 2006..a ltd run or special order?

Post by fourstringfrank »

Hi folks this will be my second post here on the forum: Ok its like this,my latest bass to my instrument collection is this wonderful Rickenbacker 4001c64s that I bought second hand..I love this bass it sounds amazing and plays like a dream.
Now to my question: I have posted this question on the official RICsite forum also...according to the specs and options on the 4001c64s model is that the bass is only made in the sanded down maple glo finish...but I have seen some 4001c64s basses in jetglo on pics...but never a 4001c64s in Fireglo...so does anyone here on the forum has the knowledge of some other 4001c64s basses in fireglo....My bass also has the zero fret, highgain pic up in the bridge position..Macca 70s style mod or Wings accurate...whatever...in the neck position it has the toaster.
The bass came whit the silver vintage case also....The serial nr on my bass is:0618238...wish means made In week 18 of 2006 according to RICs serial nr decoder.
Im very grateful for all answers I can get here...I suppose there is a lot of RIC knowledge here on this forum.
Best regards Frank.

Hi, reading over the description of your bass you mention a "highgain pickup" in the bridge position this is not the original configuration from the factory.
You should have a horseshoe pickup in the bridge position. This may lead to why your 4001c64s has the FG finish.

IMO you should contact customer service and ask the question concerning the highgain pup that is installed in your bass.

BTW can you post a few pix of this bass?

I think he might mean that it has the squarish hi-gain style pickup surround instead of the tapered '60s horseshoe surround. That's correct for a C64S.

C64S vs. C64

+1 Wes, ...but the FG finish on a C64s is the question.

Thanks guy´s for all your replys so far...well the main issue is the fireglo finish it must be a ltd run or special order...Ok it has the high gain in the bridge...I really like the fact that it has a high gain there and the toaster is in the neck,it may was ordered that way or some has done the Macca 70´s mod on the Bass ..I dont know about that, and its no big issue for me anyway as long as it sounds splendid and it really does that..the bass sounds and plays like a dream (In fact im as happy as a "pig in the pen" about this bass) :D ....no offence to my jetglo 4003 but this one is so wonderful....someone please stop my motormouthing about this bass...he he  .
I have not emailed the RIC customer service yet about the bass...Maybe someone from RIC are logged in on this forum now and then and can come up whit a answer or two about my bass....it cant be to many 4001c64s basses made in Fireglo...from what I´ve learnt so far.
Best regards Dan.

This is a photo I received from a vendor last year. It's the only C64s that I know of in Fireglo. Perhaps you have this one now:

Hello Paul and thanks for your reply in this thread....this is the first photo that i have seen on a fireglo 4001c64s bass...my own bass looks like this one...the same fireglo finish and all :) ...the only difference is from what I can see is that this bass on the photo has the horse shoe cover and not the high gain cover, but as I said earlier it can have been Macca modded or it may was ordered whit a high gain....I dont know :?: ....but how many fireglo4001c64s basses can have been made 10...or20or50 :?: ...the question is still out in the blue.

Best Dan.

Actually I´ve got some answers some days ago from the Guys at RIC on the official RIC forum...the answer was that they dont release production run numbers to the public the only time the do such things is when it comes to offical LTD series like theChris Squire ltd edition;Lemmy Ltd edition...etc.
The also say that they can still make a 4001c64s in fireglo (But no customers can order one such Bass(In other words just the regular 4001c64s in sanded mapleglo can be ordered)...so yeah I really have had the pure luck to get my hands on as it seems a very rare one.
And yes Im very happy about this bass.

For the record, I don't think your bass has a Hi-Gain pickup.

It's more likely that someone simply removed the shoes on the bridge pickup. On reissue Rickenbackers the shoes are non-functional and the pickup works the same without them.

I believe they're functional on the C64 are they not? I thought the V63 was the one with nonworking shoes.
