Rattling Truss Rods

Post by seanyfitz »

I have a rattling truss rod in my burned up 66 360. I finally got the thing back together and discovered that rattle I heard years ago is one of the truss rods. Tightening doesn't seem to help. When I actually put a slight upward pressure under the adjustment nuts it seems to stop, so I think they are vibrating of the wood internally? Anyone run into this??? It still plays like butter. Soooooooo nice.

Pull the rods, steel wool them thoroughly, wipe 'em clean, and put a thin strip of vinyl electrical tape between the leaves. Bend a slight (1") backbow into each rod. Reinstall and the rattle should be gone.
