The artsist of the week shold run for you’ve guessed it a week so when its time to move on feel free to add another, Thus regenerating the thread with interesting artists.
This weeks artist is Roddy woomble.
Born in 1976 in the west of Scotland, Roddy travelled extensively through his childhood, living in France and the United States before settling in Edinburgh to study photography, where he met his Idlewild band mates. After stints in both London and New York City, Roddy now lives in Glasgow. Idlewild, named after the quiet meeting place in Anne of Green Gables, formed in December of 1995 in Edinburgh, Scotland. The band's debut single "Queen of the Troubled Teens" was released on 17 March 1997, and built upon the chaotic reputation of their shows. Radio Scotland DJ Peter Easton, and influential Radio One DJ Steve Lamacq, came across copies. Lamacq was particularly impressed with the track "Self Healer" and asked, on the air, that if anyone knew anything about the band, they should contact him. In the summer of 1997, Idlewild played their first London shows which were attended by the likes of Lamacq, and representatives from Deceptive Records.
After a successful history with the band which includes many great Long players such as
Captain - Hope Is Important 100 Broken WindowsThe Remote PartWarnings/Promises Make Another World and the recent Scottish Fiction - Best of 1997-2007 A Distant History - Rarities 1997-2007the band as great they are are not the main topic of my artist of the week im talking about Roddy Woomble here not Idlewild.
Idlewild these wooden ideas.
In 2006 Woomble worked with several musicians including Kate Rusby(a person who when you start listening to will blow you away maybe I can add her again to artist of the week shes amazing!), his wife Ailidh Lennon, songwriter Karine Polwart (to whom he presented the Horizon Award at the BBC Folk Awards 2005) and Idlewild guitarist Rod Jones on his debut solo album My Secret is My Silence, produced by John McCusker (former husband of Kate Rusby).
He performed live with both Polwart and McCusker, in Glasgow in January 2006 and toured the United Kingdom in July and August of the same year in support of the album's release. It reached number one in the UK Folk Charts. On 10 July 2007 My Secret is My Silence was released in the U.S. on 7-10 Music.
Woomble's new album, 'Before The Ruin', written and recorded with Kris Drever and John McCusker, is set for release on 15 September 2008 on Navigator Records. This where Woomble shone like a star this album is brilliant from start to finish.
I would like to ask you all to delve in and listen to a few tracks on My secret is my silence and enjoy!I also hope you take part in this thread as it is all about change and sharing artists that we might not always know about!
