Anyone checking these out or playing one? I was killing time in the local GC a couple months ago (actually, hoping to find one of those crazy deals Jeff Thomas always seems to find in that GC), trying out a whole bunch of P-basses, and the 2008 American Standard just blew the others out of the water, including a 1962 reissue, whatever the new active version is called, and a 70s P-bass (that they were asking at least twice as much for than they should have been). They had a couple American Standards, and they all felt and sounded awesome.
Didn't walk out with one that day, but I got one a couple weeks ago and it's outstanding. It's going to split time with my Shadow at next weekend's gig, and I wouldn't be surprised if it wins my #1 spot outright. It's that awesome.
I don't know if they did a similar updating for the 2008 guitars, but what they've done with the basses is really impressive. The j-basses I checked out were similarly nice.

They're nice, but I get sick of Fender basses because that's ALL Guitar Center ever carries.

I tried a new Jazz Bass a few weeks ago in the hope that Fender finally corrected the string imbalance problem. I guess they haven't figured it out yet as the E and G strings were still considerably louder than the A and D strings, as usual!

Yeah, easily corrected with a setup -- with P pups anyway.jps wrote:I tried a new Jazz Bass a few weeks ago in the hope that Fender finally corrected the string imbalance problem.
