John Butler Trio - Ric Bass

Post by Darkhollow »

Been diggin on John Butler Trio for a few years now. I finally got to see them in Boston a few weeks back opening up for G. Love at the Pavilion. He put on an insane show, and is a fantastic showman. I love how he manipulates the open C tuning on a 12 string. His songs like Ocean and What You Want really demonstrate how dynamic of an artist he is with his finger picking / strumming styles. Plays a mean lap steel as well.

Saw this vid with a Ric and wanted to share.

If you get the chance to check out this Aussie live, do it. He goes all out and is a really fun show. Next time hopefully I can catch him for more than a 1 hour set.

And he is an absolutely fantastic guy as well. Really down to earth.

The wife of my boss got to talking to him in a park in Sydney where he was playing with his kids. She asked him what he did for a living and he said, "I just play a bit of music and write a few songs". It wasn't until she saw him on TV that she realised who he actually was.

Anyone know why he is missing that string on his 12er?

I assume it is because he just breaks that high G constantly. The guy really beats on his guitar, so probably just gave up on it.

+1 on the awesomeness of these guys. JBT opened for GL&SS in St. Augustine last weekend and I almost went with the conga player from my band. He said it was awesome, and all the JBT stuff I've heard has been amazing too.
