A Welcome Return (It's FOOTBALL season again!)

Post by lennon211 »

Well, I'm breathing a huge sigh of relief as it's now football season again. Baseball, basketball, and the Olympics just don't do it. Being able to watch NCAA this weekend and NFL later this week is such an amazing feeling. Who else is in this boat?

I usually move at the speed of baseball, except on stage, so it is almost too fast a game for me... but I like it anyway.
:D

It makes for busy, exciting, entertaining weekends.

The only pro league worth watching starts in October, imo.

At least my alma mater, the University of Illinois, ran up 42 points against Missouri in yesterday's opening loss. I'm hoping my San Diego Chargers will start the season with a win!

I'm a fan of American football, but struggle to see why we call it (and the two Rugby codes) football when 90%+ of the game is played with ball in hand or ball propelled by hand. Australian Football and Association football (soccer) do at least have a significant amount of kicking. Was there some common primordal ancestor game from which all these sports sprang which sees them all tagged as "football"? :?

Anyway, let the fun commence!

Those Cats are gonna take some stopping Aitch! But I think the Storm may get bushwacked by the Sharks or Sea Eagles this year... And we can't believe you have a new guitar without pics....

My team, the University of Kentucky Wildcats, beat their arch-rivals, Louisville, yesterday 27-2. I don't have high hopes for the rest of the season but at least the red flags will be flying a lot lower around town.

You may be right about the Storm too, Evan....... the Sea Eagles are looking good! I'd much rather they beat us than the Sharks...... only because I can't stand Brett Kimmorley!

Nice Tele :D . I love the binding on the custom! Is it the capped neck or one-piece?

Sorry this has zip to do with American football.....

With family residing in the Bay Area, I live and die with the 49ers. Hmmm, I've died a thousand deaths the last several years.....and lived to write about it! {:=) Hope springs eternal. In the spirit of fair play and competition, I hope the team you root for goes all the way. Peace, out.....Goofyfoot.

Yes, that's it exactly.

When football first started in North America, it looked a lot more like what the rest of the world calls "football" (soccer) than it does today.

Here is more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_division_football

The game we see today (with a lot more passing than kicking) evolved much later.
