Software Amp Simulation

Post by johnt »

Using Logic 8 and a Presonus firebox to connect up my ric.
I am looking in to buying some amp simulation software and would be interested to hear what peoples experiences are with whats out there. The possible alternatives are all very expensive - so I need to be sure I'm not going to waste my money! Looking for something that will model an AC30 some fendery types (bassman/reverb) and a roland jazz chorus - and of course lots more!

Possibilities so far are; Native Instruments Guitar Rig 3, Nomad Factory Rock Amp Legends. Any others?

I use Amplitube 2 and AmpegSVX from IK Multimedia and love them. They (IK) run combo specials several times a year, don't buy until then. Once you are a customer the "add-on" cost of their other products is relatively low.

For now, try these free amp products. I am assuming you are using an Apple computer, I think these all will work but I didn't check them specifically.

Have you tried Mainstage, part of the Logic Studio package? I've found it very easy to dial in some nice 'classic' amp sounds.

I have Logic 8 express - which doesn't come with mainstage - the Express version has built in plugins for modeling guitar and bass amps - they are called "Guitar Amp Pro" and the uniquely titled "Bass Amp" they are OK but not in the same league as dedicated software.
