From what I understand it is a 330S/12. Apparently there were only a few of them in the U.S.

If memory serves me right that was a You Tube video of him playing that guitar during a European tour.

They should do another run of Carl Wilson models ,but do this model .
And it would be good for The Carl Wilson Foundation too.

Carl also rocked out on the Sullivan Show with it to "I Get Around". Al played it on "Wendy" during the same appearance.wmthor wrote:If memory serves me right that was a You Tube video of him playing that guitar during a European tour.

If they did make an artist limited edition of this model, I vote it go to Pete Townshend or Mike Pender, but that's me...all the same, seeing Wilson with a 1993 is simply too cool!

Re: carl wilson with a 1993/12?
Speaking of Carl Wilson, I'd like at everyone to look at these two pics and tell me what you think.....same tuners...?

The top pictue was taken during rehearsal for the July 1965 Beach Boys show at the Hollywood bowl. The other pic is my 1964 360/12's peghead....until I saw this pic, I had never seen another 360/12 with these tuners, mine had been the only one.....there are many examples out of the dozen or so '64 450/12's made that have them too. Maybe I have an old guitar of Carl's......(yeah right)

Re: carl wilson with a 1993/12?
Then the CW limited edition 360/6 and 360/12 models should have had the openback tuners?
Since we're on this, are there any songs notable of when Carl used a Ric? If I bought a CW 12-string, I'd want to be able to know a FEW Beach Boys tunes (and to be honest, I know none).

Re: carl wilson with a 1993/12?
There are some great tunes to play on a Ric 12. Some of my favorites, regardless of whether or not they were actually played by Carl or a studio man, are:
California Girls
Help Me Rhonda
I Get Around
Don't Worry Baby (sounds awesome on the 12)
Wendy
Little Honda
Dance Dance Dance
Do You Wanna Dance?
Sloop John B
Those are some good starters right there that there should be tabs readily available. For the tones, just make sure that it's clean and sparkles and has a touch of reverb in most cases. You can figure out the rest about the pickups being used, etc.

Re: carl wilson with a 1993/12?
Jake, it looks as though Carl had more than one Rickenbacker 12-string at the Hollywood Bowl shows, for there are pics of him within this same series of pics with a new-style 12-string that has regular closed-back Kluson tuners on it. But, there seems to be no doubt from the pics that he also had a different Rickenbacker there that had the open-back Grovers on it. When was this guitar made...?? I can't say for certain but my guess is probably November-December 1964....the 450/12s with these tuners were made in November, my 360/12 was made in December '64.JakeK wrote:Then the CW limited edition 360/6 and 360/12 models should have had the openback tuners?
Re: carl wilson with a 1993/12?
There are, I believe at least 3 different Ric 12's that Carl had. He had the 330S/12 which is the topic here. In addition there was the 360/12NS on which the signature edition was based, and a 360/12OS which can be seen with the traditional Ric soundhole on the back of the Pet Sounds LP.
