So I have located one of these with some very nice birds-eye top and back in mapleglow. It is a 95 in what is said to be EXC condition. What is a fair price? they want 4K

(the last time I posted a link here to what I thought was a good deal someone snagged it before me) so I won't link it lol.

I understand that the 6 string 381V69 is rarer than the 12 string version. The example you've posted is a sweet guitar for sure, however $4K is not a bargain. More recently I've seen used examples selling for under $3000.

Considering that a new one has a list price of $4949, $4000 isn't that bad. Of course, if one were to order one, one probably could get a better price, but then there is the wait.

If I were after it, I might offer $3800 + shipping and see whether the seller would accept it.

Edit - Darren is right, but remember that supply and demand can make the prices fluctuate. It boils down to two things: (1) how much do you 'have to have it', and (2) how committed is the seller to selling it.

Then, there is the gamble you even get figured wood with Ric. /sigh

Yeah, I'm afraid I recently learned these are not what you think they're worth. ("you" collectively, not "you" personally) Way too high a price these days.

In better economic conditions the seller could very well expect 4K. However, right now, it's a buyers market, IMO. I'd say 3 to 3200, tops.

This one sold three weeks ago. -Click- I believe the seller started out around 2.8k with no action. Some may recall the large chrome buttons over the pickguard screws; made the guitar look silly. (FYI, the buttons turned out to be those chrome caps you can put over your car's license-plate frames) The seller got wise (probably cuz I wrote him), removed the buttons, took new photos and re-listed the auction at a BIN of $2,249. It quickly sold. If you're from the more-is-better school, then this one was hard to beat, but I found the flame a bit much. They are beautiful guitars though, probably the best looking guitar from RIC, but I'm holding out for an FG. You gotta love that carve.

I've been watching prices on these, and there's been (allowing for the usual anomalies in prices, onesies and twosies) less movement upward on 381V69s than on other Ricks.

Considering this and the current unexciting market, I'd say that no more than $3K would be fair, and $2800 more realistic.
